David Shapiro, born in Brooklyn in 1944 and educated at the Pratt Institute (B.F.A.) and the Indiana University ( M.F.A.) has very extensive exhibition experience. One-person shows have been put up in galleries and museums allover the country as well as in Tokyo and London.

The National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution recently added a Shapiro to it's collection joining such other prestigious public institutions as the Brooklyn Museum, the Guggenheim and Museum of Modem Art in New York, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Other museum collections with Shapiro's work include those in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Des Moines, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Wayne, Charlotte, Greensboro and Palm Springs and it can also be found in more than a dozen university collections.

"David's Shapiro 's abstract paintings look like music made visual, like bands" of sounds" and frequency painted in stripes. Each one is divided into registers of color and texture, and each of those seems to represent a phase of some process or a facet of some multidimensional thing too complex to represent in only one way.

These paintings have a Zen-like, meditative quality that is most pleasing. They serenely blend pure thought with nature, the contemplation of which produces an agreeable state of calm hyper-awareness."
